New Jersey and New York: Price Movements of Top Exports and Other Highlights

Combined exports from New Jersey and New York totaled $197.3 billion in 2025, up 43.8 percent from 2024. New Jersey exports totaled $44.2 billion in 2025 and the export value from New York was $153.1 billion. Prices for primary metal manufacturing, the largest export industry for the two states, decreased in March. Export prices for chemical manufacturing advanced over the same period. In contrast, prices for export computer and electronic product manufacturing and miscellaneous manufacturing declined in March.

Top Six New Jersey and New York Exports by Trade Dollar Value, 2025

  • New Jersey and New York exports represented 9.1 percent of the total trade dollar value of U.S. exports in 2025.
  • New Jersey and New York exported 58.2 percent of the 2025 U.S. total trade dollar value of $151.7 billion for primary metal manufacturing.
  • The top 6 exports from New Jersey and New York accounted for 79.2 percent of the region's total export trade dollar value in 2025.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Primary Metal Manufacturing

  • Prices for export primary metal manufacturing fell 1.7 percent in March.
  • The export price index for primary metal manufacturing increased 39.1 percent from March 2025 to March 2026.
  • The over-the-year advance in primary metal manufacturing prices was driven by a 50.3-percent rise in prices for nonferrous metal (except aluminum) production and processing exports.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Miscellaneous Manufacturing

  • Export miscellaneous manufacturing prices decreased 0.8 percent in March.
  • A 0.8-percent decline in other miscellaneous manufacturing export prices contributed to the March drop in prices for export miscellaneous manufacturing.
  • The price index for export miscellaneous manufacturing increased 3.7 percent over the past year.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Chemical Manufacturing

  • Export chemical manufacturing prices advanced 0.9 percent in March.
  • A 3.0-percent rise in prices for resin, synthetic rubber, and artificial synthetic fibers manufacturing contributed to the advance in prices for export chemical manufacturing in March.
  • The price index for chemical manufacturing exports increased 0.2 percent over the past year.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing

  • Computer and electronic product manufacturing export prices declined 0.4 percent in March.
  • The monthly decrease in export prices for computer and electronic product manufacturing was driven by a 3.5-percent decline in prices for export semiconductor and other electronic component manufacturing.
  • Export computer and electronic product manufacturing prices advanced 0.2 percent for the 12 months ended March 2026.
