To produce the largest number of occupational estimates by job characteristics and geographic locations, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) developed a statistical procedure that combines survey data from both the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) and the National Compensation Survey (NCS) programs. The Modeled Wage Estimates (MWE) provide additional detail on occupational average hourly wages than either program can provide separately.
Since the MWE are not produced from one survey, the model is based on a series of assumptions that must be satisfied to calculate them. The Handbook of Methods for the OEWS and the NCS provide information regarding each survey design.
