Highway accidents and homicides top the list of fatal work injuries, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics first census of fatal incidents in 50 States and the District of Columbia. This article describes highlights from the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, including that the average age of fatally injured workers was 42 years, and that highway vehicle accidents were the leading fatal even for male workers while on-the-job homicides were the leading fatal even for female workers.
