Why is it necessary to change?

In recent years, the CPS has been hard pressed to keep pace with the changes in U.S. economic and social life. As a result, a revamped survey, geared to the 1990's, will be initiated in January 1994. This article presents an overview of the Current Population Survey, and generally discusses the areas slated for change.
