The transition from school to work among male high school students is more heterogeneous?and successful?than is often thought. By age 20, half of all graduates have jobs that will last more than 2 years, and by age 22, more than 3 years, but there is considerable variation within and across levels of education. This article explores whether an often characterized young man, and the transition from school to work is accurate for the bulk of the U.S. youth.
