Inflation remained stable in 1994, as the index for all items less food and energy, which is considered the underlying rate of inflation, posted its smallest rise since the mid-1960's. In 1994, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased by 2.7 percent, while the "core" index (CPI for all items less food and energy) rose 2.6 percent.
