In March 2006, the Bureau changed the Employment Cost Index (ECI) to reflect a switch to new industry and occupational classification systems used throughout the Federal statistical community. This article describes the impact of the new industry and occupational classification systems on publication series, as well as notes other related developments that will occur simultaneously. Other modifications reflect an evaluation of the quality of various series, as well as a slight change in the ECI compensation costs definition, which includes wages, salaries, and employer costs for employee benefits.
