In June 2006, the corporate, subsidiary, and regional managing offices industry employed 1.7 million people.
The counties with the highest employment in managing offices were Los Angeles County, New York County, and Cook County, Illinois (which contains Chicago).
Only 1.3 percent of jobs in the United States overall are in the managing offices industry. In the counties with the highest employment in the managing offices industry, the percentage of jobs in the industry ranges from about 1.2 to 4.0 times the national average.
Some smaller areas have an even higher percentage of their county employment in the managing offices industry. Benton County, Arkansas, has the highest percentage of its employment in this industry at 13.5 percent, more than 10 times the national average.
