Since December 2009, total payroll employment has increased by 1.1 million, or an average of 94,000 per month.
Since December 2009, employment in education and health services has increased 422,000. Employment in professional and business services has increased 366,000, and since a recent low point in December 2009, leisure and hospitality has added nearly a quarter of a million jobs.
In December 2010, the over-the-month change in total nonfarm payroll employment was an increase of 103,000. Employment rose in leisure and hospitality and in health care but changed little in other major industries.
