Job openings, hires, and total separations by industry, August 2012

There were 3.6 million job openings on the last business day of August, essentially unchanged from July. The number of hires in August was 4.4 million, up from 3.7 million at the end of the recession in June 2009. The number of total separations—a figure that includes quits, layoffs and discharges, and other separations—was 4.4 million.
