During 2012, the Harmonized Indexes of Consumer Prices (HICP), an internationally comparable measure of consumer price inflation, increased in 14 of 16 countries compared. Italy had the highest inflation (3.3 percent) followed by the United Kingdom (2.8 percent).

In both Sweden and Norway, the annual percent increase in the HICP was less than 1.0 percent in 2012. Japan had no change in its HICP. Among the countries in the comparison, Switzerland was the only one in which the HICP declined in 2012 (−0.8 percent).
In the United States, the annual increase in the HICP was 2.2 percent in 2012.
