For the 12 months ended November 2016, the index for unprocessed goods for intermediate demand climbed 0.2 percent, the first increase since a 0.9-percent rise for the 12 months ended July 2014. This index measures price change for goods sold to businesses as inputs to production that have undergone no fabrication. Crude petroleum sold to refineries is an example of an unprocessed good sold to intermediate demand.
Over the same 12-month period, prices for services for intermediate demand advanced 2.3 percent and prices for construction for intermediate demand increased 1.4 percent. The services for intermediate demand index includes trade services, transportation and warehousing services, and other services sold as inputs to production. The construction for intermediate demand index measures price change for construction purchased by firms as inputs to production.
These data are from the Producer Price Indexes program and are not seasonally adjusted. To learn more, see “Producer Price Indexes — November 2016” (HTML) (PDF). Producer price indexes measure prices that U.S. producers receive for goods, services, and construction. All producer prices are subject to revision once, 4 months after original publication, reflecting late reports and corrections by respondents.
