Industries with summertime peaks in employment

For some industries, employment peaks in summer months in response to increased demand for that industry's products and services. Some of these industries include amusement parks; RV parks and campgrounds; recreational and vacation camps; golf courses and country clubs; marinas; hotels and motels (except casinos); and historical sites and other similar institutions.

In amusement parks and arcades, employment in July 2007 was 198,200. Employment during peak periods remained flat until July 2012, where employment reached 226,800. This represented a 14.4-percent increase from July 2007 to July 2012. Since July 2012, employment increased to 261,900 in July 2016, a 15.5-percent increase from July 2012 and a 32.1-percent increase from July 2007.

Each year, employment in golf courses and country clubs reaches seasonal peaks in July and typically reaches lows in January or February. From seasonal peak to seasonal trough, employment decreased by an average 46.6 percent from July 2007 to January 2017. Employment increased from 264,000 in January 2016 to 490,800 in July 2016. This represents a 85.9-percent increase in employment.
