There were 33 crane-related fatalities in 2017, the lowest number since we began tracking fatal work injuries in 1992. From 1992 to 2010, crane-related fatalities averaged 78 deaths a year. Between 2011 and 2017, the average fell to 42 deaths a year.

Just over half of all fatal crane injuries since 2011 involved a worker being struck by an object or equipment. Falls to a lower level made up about 14 percent, and transportation incidents about 13 percent.
