The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 8.6 percent for the 12 months ended September 2021, the largest 12-month increase on record. Prices for final demand goods, which account for 32.1 percent of the Producer Price Index, increased 13.3 percent over the year ended September 2021. Final demand services, with a weight of 66.2 percent, increased 6.4 percent from September 2020 to September 2021.

Within the goods category, final demand foods, which have a weight of 5.6 percent, increased 12.9 percent. Prices for final demand energy, with a weight of 5.0 percent, increased 36.3 percent over the year. Prices for final demand goods less food and energy, which have a weight of 21.5 percent, increased 8.3 percent.
Within the services category, prices for final demand trade services (with a weight of 19.7 percent) increased 9.7 percent over the year. Prices for final demand transportation and warehousing services (weight of 4.1 percent) increased 10.7 percent. Prices for final demand services less trade, transportation, and warehousing (weight of 42.3 percent) increased 4.4 percent during this 12-month period.
Prices for final demand construction, which makes up 1.7 percent of total producer prices, increased 5.2 percent.
