All of the 10 largest U.S. counties had over-the-year percentage increases in employment in September 2022. New York County (Manhattan), New York, had the largest over-the-year percentage increase in employment (6.6 percent), followed by Dallas County, Texas, at 5.7 percent. National employment increased 4.3 percent over the same period.

All of the 10 largest U.S. counties had over-the-year percentage increases in average weekly wages in the third quarter of 2022. Miami-Dade County, Florida, had the largest over-the-year percentage gain in average weekly wages (8.8 percent), followed by Dallas County, Texas (8.5 percent). Average weekly wages for the nation increased 6.7 percent over the year.
Only one of the largest 10 counties had a decrease in the number of establishments from September 2021 to September 2022. Establishments in King County, Washington, decreased 10.7 percent over the year, while the largest increases were in Maricopa County, Arizona (9.5 percent) and Orange County, California (4.1 percent). Nationally, the number of establishments increased 5.3 percent over the year.
These data are from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages program and are preliminary. Large counties are defined as having employment of at least 75,000.
