Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 24 large metropolitan areas (those with a population of at least 1 million in the 2010 Census) from June 2023 to June 2024 and was essentially unchanged in 27 large metropolitan areas. The largest over-the-year percentage increases in employment in these large metropolitan areas occurred in Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, Nevada (+3.4 percent), and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (+2.8 percent), followed by Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson, Indiana; Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, Florida; and Salt Lake City, Utah (+2.5 percent each).

The large metropolitan areas that had the largest net employment increases from June 2023 to June 2024 were New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA (+120,800), Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, California (+84,000), and Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, Texas (+78,000).
