Producer prices for final demand increased 2.1 percent from March 2023 to March 2024

The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 2.1 percent for the 12 months ended in March 2024, the largest advance since rising 2.3 percent for the 12 months ended April 2023. The increase in prices for final demand is attributed to a 2.8-percent rise in prices for final demand services and a 0.8-percent rise for final demand goods.

Among final demand goods, prices for foods moved up 1.0 percent over the year, while prices for energy were down 1.0 percent. Prices for final demand goods less foods and energy increased 1.4 percent.  

Turning to final demand services, prices for trade services rose 0.7 percent over the 12 months ending March 2024, while prices for transportation and warehousing services declined 0.8 percent. Final demand services less trade, transportation, and warehousing prices increased 4.2 percent, with a 13.5-percent increase in portfolio management prices contributing to the rise.
