The 2023 rate of fatal work injuries for all industries fell to 3.5 deaths per 100,000 full-time workers from 3.7 in 2022. This was driven in part by year-to-year decreases in fatality rates for transportation and material moving (14.6 to 13.6) and service (4.2 to 3.6) occupations, including protective service (10.2 to 8.2).
