Producer prices up 6.0 percent, energy up 22.7 percent, over the year ended April 2026

The Producer Price Index for final demand rose 6.0 percent (not seasonally adjusted) over the 12 months ending April 2026. This was the largest 12-month increase since the index increased 6.4 percent in December 2022.

Prices for final demand, not including foods, energy, and trade services, increased 4.4 percent over the year ending April 2026, the largest 12-month increase since a 4.5-percent increase in February 2023.

Prices for final demand goods increased 7.4 percent from April 2025 to April 2026, while prices for final demand services rose 5.5 percent.

The increase in producer prices for final demand goods over the year included a a 22.7-percent increase in energy prices and a 2.2-percent increase in prices for food. Within services, prices for transportation and warehousing increased 12.2 percent, while prices for trade services rose 8.1 percent.
