BLS withholds (i.e. suppresses) the publication of certain QCEW data when needed to protect respondent confidentiality. Suppression limits the usability of QCEW data. However, many states have told BLS that employment and wage reports from state and/or local government respondents constitute public information and therefore do not need to be withheld from publication.
The table below lists all states reporting to QCEW and whether or not their government data are sensitive. "Yes" means that the state considers its government data to be sensitive. For these states, BLS withholds government employment and wage totals when needed to protect respondent confidentiality. "No" means that the state considers its government data to be public information. For these states, BLS does not withhold government employment and wage totals from publication. State and local government data are treated independently. Note that these designations may change over time as state policies change. The "Quarter Effective" columns denote when these designations were reflected in the QCEW data.
