New 2024 Connecticut Counties
In 2022, the State of Connecticut requested that The U.S. Census Bureau adopt its nine planning regions as county-equivalents. These nine planning regions replace Connecticut's eight counties used historically. For more information see the associated Federal Register Notice. There is no direct mapping between the old and new counties. Since QCEW is not a time series product, switching to these new county definitions creates break in Connecticut data between fourth quarter 2023 and first quarter 2024.
Connecticut's new counties were used in the July 2023 update to the Core based statistical areas (CBSAs), metropolitan divisions, and combined statistical areas (CSAs) definitions. QCEW data from 2024 forward use these new counties and the new statistical areas based on these counties. Data prior to 2024 use the historical counties.
