Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages

Change in the presentation of Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) data in QCEW

Beginning with third quarter 2025 data, to be released on March 10, 2026, the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) will publish Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) employment and wages at only the total covered employment for the area. Data for detailed industry within the area will no longer be available. This aligns the MSA data presentation with how Combined Statistical Areas (CSA) and Micropolitan Statistical Areas (MicroSA) data are presented. Data users interested in specific geographic data by detailed industry can still calculate these data by aggregating from county-level totals, using the available QCEW County-MSA-CSA crosswalk if needed.
