The National Compensation Survey produces quarterly indexes measuring change over time in labor costs, Employment Cost Index (ECI), and quarterly data measuring level of average costs per hour worked, Employer Costs for Employee Compensation (ECEC).

Compensation costs increased 0.7 percent for civilian workers, seasonally adjusted, from June 2019 to September 2019. Over the year, compensation rose 2.8 percent, with wages and salaries rising 2.9 percent and benefit costs increasing 2.3 percent.
Employer costs for civilian worker wages and salaries averaged $25.12 per hour worked and $11.48 for benefits in June 2019.
Retirement and savings costs were $1.94, accounting for 5.3 percent of total compensation costs.
