Employer Cost for Employee Compensation - Field DefinitionsOwnershipOwnership classifies the employer as part of the Private Sector or as part of State and local government. ComponentComponents represent the type of compensation provided by the employer. NCS collects data on wages, salaries, and selected benefits (such as vacations, life insurance, and retirement plans). OccupationAn occupation is a job, or family of jobs, common to many industries or areas. A worker is classified into one of 800 different occupations, based on the Standard Occupational Classifications. NCS publishes data for aggregated groups of occupations (e.g., Sales and Office occupations). IndustryIndustry classifies the establishment into one of 1,000 different industrial sectors based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). NCS publishes data for aggregated sectors (e.g., Goods-producing industries). SubcategorySubcategories represent the selected characteristics such as establishment size, union status, or pay structure within which the compensation is made. AreaAn area is a geographical region for which data are published. NCS presents selected data for the United States as a whole, for Census regions and divisions, and for selected metropolitan areas. Data TypeIndicates the unit of measurement. Seasonally AdjustedIndicates the adjustment of time series data to eliminate the effect of intrayear variations which tend to occur during the same period on an annual basis.
