Between 1980 and 1987, the number of Hispanic workers rose dramatically, accounting for almost a fifth of the Nation's employment growth; the increase for Hispanic women was especially sharp. The number of Hispanic workers increased by 39 percent, reaching 8.5 million in 1987.
