Seasonal employment declined markedly from 1960 to 1990, a trend that was widespread throughout private industry and demographic groups. Some of the reasons for a less seasonal workplace are changing technologies, employers' expanded use of part-time workers, and workers' growing preferences for year-round work. In this article, we show that there has in fact been a dramatic decline in seasonal employment over the last several decades.
