Job openings in February 2013

There were 3.9 million job openings on the last business day of February 2013, up from 3.6 million in January. The number of job openings in February was the highest number since May 2008.

Over the month, job openings increased in health care and social assistance (+93,000, within the education and health services industry), accommodation and food services (+57,000, within the leisure and hospitality industry), and state and local government (+30,000, within government).

The number of job openings in February 2013 (not seasonally adjusted) was up over the year for total nonfarm and total private, and was little changed for government. Job openings increased over the year for construction, finance and insurance, accommodation and food services, and state and local government.
