In July, total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 215,000. That compares with an average monthly gain of 211,000 so far in 2015. In 2014, job gains averaged 260,000 per month.

Retail trade employment rose 36,000 in July 2015 and by 322,000 over the year. Health care (part of education and health services) added 28,000 jobs over the month and has added 436,000 since July 2014.
Employment in transportation and warehousing also continued to trend up in July (14,000) and rose by 146,000 over the year. Employment in couriers and messengers—a part of the industry—rose by 3,000 over the month.
Mining and logging employment continued to trend down in July (-4,000). The industry lost 64,000 jobs from July 2014 to July 2015.
