Establishments with fewer than 50 workers employed 60 percent of construction workers in March 2016

In March 2016, 60.4 percent of construction workers worked in business establishments with fewer than 50 employees. In that same industry, 2.3 percent of workers worked in business establishments with 1,000 or more employees. In the leisure and hospitality industry, 58.0 percent of workers worked in business establishments with fewer than 50 employees. An additional 20.4 percent of workers in that industry worked in business establishments with 50 to 99 employees.

In March 2016, 23.0 percent of workers in the education and health services industry worked in business establishments with 1,000 or more employees. In that same industry, 34.1 percent of workers worked in business establishments with fewer than 50 employees. In manufacturing, 16.5 percent of workers worked in business establishments with 1,000 or more employees. The majority of workers in this industry worked in business establishments with 249 or less employees.
