PPI final demand index up 1.6 percent in 2016

The Producer Price Index for final demand climbed 1.6 percent in 2016, after falling 1.1 percent in 2015. The decrease in 2015 is the only December-to-December decline in the final demand index over the 2010–2016 period.

The PPI for final demand goods increased 1.9 percent in 2016, after decreasing of 3.8 percent in 2015 and 1.2 percent in 2014.

The index for final demand services increased 1.5 percent in 2016, after an increase of 0.2 percent in 2015. The final demand services index has increased every year over the 2010–2016 period.

In 2016, the index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services (not shown on the chart) increased 1.7 percent, following a 0.3-percent increase in 2015.
