From June 2017 to June 2018, nonfarm employment rose in 35 of 51 metropolitan areas with a 2010 Census population of 1 million or more and remained essentially unchanged in 16 areas. The largest over-the-year employment increases occurred in New York-Newark-Jersey City, New York-New Jersey-Pennsylvania (+117,400; an increase of 1.2 percent), Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (+109,400; 3.0 percent), and Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, Texas (+94,600; 3.1 percent).

Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, California; Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, Arizona; Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Washington also had increases in employment of more than 60,000 over the June 2017–June 2018 period.
The largest over-the-year percentage increases in employment in these large metropolitan areas occurred in Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida (+3.6 percent; an employment increase of 44,100), Austin-Round Rock, Texas (+3.4 percent; 35,700), and Raleigh, North Carolina (+3.2 percent; 19,600), and Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, CA (+3.2 percent; 45,800).
