Producer Price Index for final demand up 9.6 percent for year ended November 2021

The Producer Price Index for final demand rose 9.6 percent for the 12 months ended in November 2021, the largest advance since 12-month data were first calculated in November 2010. Final goods prices for energy goods increased 43.8 percent over the year ended in November; energy goods accounted for 5.0 percent of final demand spending.

Prices for final demand foods, which were 5.6 percent of total spending, increased 11.7 percent. Prices for final demand goods less foods and energy increased 9.4 percent for the 12 months ended in November. Goods less foods and energy have a weight of 21.6 percent.
Final demand transportation and warehousing services increased 13.8 percent over the year ended in November 2021. Final demand trade services increased 10.8 percent over this period. Other final demand services (final demand services less trade, transportation, and warehousing) were up 4.8 percent.
Since 2014, the 12-month change for prices of final demand energy goods has ranged from −30.4 percent (in April 2020) to 48.0 percent (April 2021).
