Workplace violence: homicides and nonfatal intentional injuries by another person in 2020

There were 392 workplace homicides in 2020. There were also 37,060 nonfatal injuries in the workplace resulting from an intentional injury by another person.

The five occupational groups with the most workplace homicides in 2020 were sales and related, transportation and material moving, management, construction and extraction, and production. Homicides in sales and related occupations accounted for 23.5 percent of all workplace homicides in 2020.

Service occupations accounted for about half of all nonfatal intentional injuries by another person that required at least a day away from work in 2020. Service occupations include healthcare support, protective service, food preparation and serving related, building and grounds cleaning and maintenance, and personal care and service occupations. Healthcare practitioners and technical occupations made up about 23 percent of cases.
