Nonfarm payroll employment up in 27 states from June 2023 to June 2024

From June 2023 to June 2024, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 27 states and was essentially unchanged in 23 states and the District of Columbia. The largest percentage increases occurred in South Carolina (+3.5 percent), Missouri (+3.2 percent), and Nevada (+3.1 percent).

The following states also had over-the-year employment increases of at least 2.0 percent: Idaho (2.8 percent), Montana (2.7 percent), Alaska and Utah (2.2 percent each), Alabama and Virginia (2.1 percent each), and Arkansas and Florida (2.0 percent each).

The largest job gains from June 2023 to June 2024 occurred in Texas (+267,400), California (+223,600), and Florida (+196,900).
