2.5 million workplace injuries and illnesses in private industry in 2024, down 3.1 percent from 2023

Private industry employers reported 2.5 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in 2024, down 3.1 percent from 2023. This decrease was driven by a 26.0-percent drop in illness cases to 148,000, the lowest number reported since 2019. The 2024 incidence rate of total recordable cases in private industry was 2.3 cases per 100 full-time equivalent workers, down from 2.4 in 2023. This was the lowest total recordable cases rate for this data series going back to 2003.

The decrease in illnesses was due to a 46.1-percent decrease in respiratory illness cases, down to 54,000 cases in 2024.
