Alaska leads hires rates in October 2025 at 9.4 percent

In October 2025, hires rates increased in 3 states, decreased in 1 state, and were little changed in 46 states and the District of Columbia from the previous month. Compared with the U.S. average hires rate of 3.2 percent, 14 states and the District of Columbia had lower rates while 32 states had higher rates.

Alaska had the highest rate of hires in October, at 9.4 percent, followed by Wyoming (6.1 percent) and Montana (5.9 percent). The District of Columbia had the lowest hires rates at 2.2 percent, followed by Pennsylvania (2.4 percent) and Massachusetts (2.8 percent).

Over the year, Oklahoma had the largest hires rate decrease (−1.1 percentage points) and Utah had the largest increase (0.6 percentage points).
