American Time Use Survey

ATUS Series ID Spreadsheets: A Tables

You can use the information on this page to obtain time-use estimates from 2003—the first year the American Time Use Survey was collected—to the most recent year available. The Excel files listed below contain series IDs that can be used to extract data series from the BLS database using the Series Report Tool. Instructions on using the Series Report Tool appear on the ATUS Database Extraction Tools and Tips page.

The Excel files are organized as follows. Each Excel file provides the series IDs corresponding to estimates published on tables A-1 and A-2, which provide time-use estimates for over 100 activities by sex and day of week. Within each Excel file, there are multiple worksheets that correspond to specific populations, including: the total civilian noninstitutionalized population age 15 and over, various age groups, presence and age of household children, and employment statuses.
