October jobless rates up over the year in 272 of 389 metro areas; payroll jobs up in 32

Jobless rates were higher in October than a year earlier in 272 of the 389 metropolitan areas, lower in 98, and unchanged in 19. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 32 metropolitan areas, decreased in 1, and was essentially unchanged in 356.
