In September 2013, there were 735,000 job openings in trade, transportation, and utilities, 725,000 in education and health services, and 672,000 in education and health services. The number of job openings in manufacturing and construction were 252,000 and 113,000, respectively.
The number of job openings increased over the year for total nonfarm and total private, and was little changed in government. Over the year, the number of job openings increased in several industries but decreased in nondurable goods manufacturing and federal government.
