Consumer prices up 3.0 percent in San Francisco area over the year ended in February

Over the 12-month period ending in March 2016, as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), prices in the West region of the United States increased 1.5 percent. In the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, California, area, the CPI-U increased 3.0 percent (over the 12 months ending in February 2016). Consumer prices in the Los Angeles-Riverside-Orange County, California, area increased 1.7 percent (over the 12 months ending in March 2016).

In the Midwest, the CPI-U increased 0.5 percent from March 2015 to March 2016. Within the Midwest, prices increased 0.9 percent in the Detroit-Ann Arbor-Flint, Michigan area from February 2015 to February 2016, while prices decreased 0.2 percent in the Cleveland-Akron, Ohio area (March 2015 to March 2016).
