Twenty-seven states had over-the-year increases in nonfarm payroll employment in September. The largest percentage gains occurred in Nevada (+3.2 percent), Idaho (+3.1 percent), and Utah (+3.0 percent) all of which were statistically significant.

Among the states with statistically significant employment changes, Nevada had the largest over-the-year employment increases in construction (+12.3 percent), manufacturing (+6.3 percent), and financial activities (+5.8 percent) industries. North Carolina had the largest increase in trade, transportation, and utilities (+3.9 percent) industry. Idaho saw the largest increase in professional and business services (+8.2 percent) and the largest decrease in information (–9.0 percent). Washington had the largest increase in employment in education and health services (+4.7 percent) and information (+5.4 percent). New Mexico increased 7.9 percent in leisure and hospitality, while Delaware had the largest increase in government (+3.3 percent).
