The largest over-the-year percentage gains in employment occurred in Ocean City, New Jersey (+38.9 percent), Atlantic City-Hammonton, New Jersey (+36.8 percent), and Barnstable Town, Massachusetts (+17.8 percent).

In June 2021, a total of 11 metro areas had over-the-year percent increases in employment greater than 10 percent. New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA had the largest over-the-year net increase in employment (+748,900). This was followed by Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, California (+324,600), and Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN-WI (+225,700).
Over the year, nonfarm employment increased in all metro areas with a 2010 population of 1 million or more. The largest over-the-year percentage increases in employment in these large metro areas occurred in Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, Nevada (+12.8 percent), Buffalo-Cheektowaga-Niagara Falls, New York (+11.5 percent), and Providence-Warwick, Rhode Island-Massachusetts (+9.5 percent).
