In June 2021, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 25 states, decreased in 1 state, and was essentially unchanged in 24 states and the District of Columbia. From June 2020 to June 2021, nonfarm payroll employment increased in all states and the District.

The largest over-the-month percentage increases in employment occurred in Arizona (+1.3 percent), Nevada (+1.2 percent), and Florida and North Carolina (+0.9 percent each). Employment decreased 0.9 percent in Alaska in June 2021.
Over the year, the largest percentage increases occurred in Nevada (+11.6 percent), and New Jersey (+10.1 percent). Oklahoma (+2.1 percent) was the lone state to have an over-the-year employment gain below 3 percent in June 2021.
