Nonfarm payroll employment up in 30 states from December 2022 to December 2023

From December 2022 to December 2023, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 30 states and was essentially unchanged in 20 states and the District of Columbia. The largest percentage increases occurred in Nevada, at 3.8 percent, followed by Idaho and South Dakota (+3.0 percent each).

An additional five states had over-the-year percentage increases of at least 2.5 percent: Wyoming (+2.8 percent), Texas (+2.7 percent), South Carolina and West Virginia (+2.6 percent each), and Florida (+2.5 percent).

The largest job gains from December 2022 to December 2023 occurred in Texas (+369,600), California (+311,600), and Florida (+240,600).

From November 2023 to December 2023, nonfarm payroll employment was essentially unchanged in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
