Employment up 2.7 percent in South Carolina over the year ended May 2025

Over the year ended May 2025, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 18 states and was essentially unchanged in 32 states and the District of Columbia. The largest percentage increases occurred in South Carolina (+2.7 percent), Idaho (+2.6 percent), and Utah (+2.4 percent). Two other states, Hawaii and New Mexico, also had percentage increases of at least 2.0 percent. Employment increases in these 5 states ranged from 13,900 in Hawaii to 62,500 in South Carolina.

In terms of the number of jobs, the largest over-the-year job gains occurred in Texas (+213,300), Florida (+148,700), and New York (+100,400). These were increases of 1.5 percent in both Texas and Florida, and 1.0 percent in New York.
