In the midst of hurricane season many of us are more aware of the dangers of extreme weather, both at home and at work. There were a total of 5,283 fatal work injuries in 2023. Weather-related conditions were the primary or secondary source of 100 of those deaths.
Ice, sleet, snow, or hail contributed to nearly half (45) of the weather-related workplace deaths. High winds, gusts, or turbulence led to 18 fatal injuries, while rain played a role in 15. Seven of the deaths were caused in part by tornadoes, hurricanes, or typhoons.
