Wind turbine service technicians employment projected to grow 49.9 percent from 2024 to 2034

The two occupations projected to have the fastest growth in employment from 2024 to 2034 are tied to renewable energy generation. Employment of wind turbine service technicians is projected to grow 49.9 percent (6,800 jobs) and solar photovoltaic installers employment is projected to grow 42.1 percent (12,000 jobs).

Several of the 15 fastest growing occupations are in healthcare. Nurse practitioners is projected to be the fastest growing healthcare occupation with an employment increase of 40.1 percent and 128,400 jobs. Physical therapist assistants, with growth of 22.0 percent and 24,500 jobs, and ophthalmic medical technicians, with 19.8-percent growth and 15,600 added jobs, are also projected to be in high demand. Demand for mental health services is projected to increase employment of psychiatric technicians by 20.0 percent (28,900 jobs) over the 2024–34 period. 

As cyberattack risks become larger and more complex and firms continue to invest in services to protect their data and networks, demand for information security analysts is expected to increase. Employment for information security analysts is projected to grow 28.5 percent (52,100 jobs) from 2024 to 2034—making it the fastest growing computer occupation. The growing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including generative AI tools, is another factor that will fuel strong job growth among computer and mathematical occupations. Employment of data scientists is projected to grow 33.5 percent and add 82,500 jobs, while employment of computer and information research scientists is projected to grow 19.7 percent and add 7,900 jobs during the decade.
