Consumer Expenditure Surveys

Consumer Expenditure Surveys July 2018 - June 2019 Midyear Tables ERRATA

The midyear tables released on April 28, 2020, were updated to include data on taxes, and income after taxes. These data were previously suppressed because of an issue in estimates of federal and state taxes and after-tax income.

Data for four consumer expenditure items that were phased out after 2018 were missing from the midyear data. This missing data only affects the third and fourth quarters of 2018. The excluded items were:

  • Boys' uniforms and active sportswear
  • Men's active sportswear
  • Women's active sportswear
  • Girls' active sportswear

These expenditures totaled approximately $100 in the 2018 annual data, therefore approximately $50 were excluded from the third and fourth quarters of 2018 in the midyear expenditures of the four items listed. Given the statistically insignificant impact on total expenditures, data for these items were excluded from rereleased tables.
