PUMD ERRATUM Interview MTBI and FMLI files

Consumer Expenditure Public-Use Microdata
Original Release: September 30, 2008  Updated: September 19, 2013

To users of the 2005 Consumer Expenditure Public Use Microdata Files:

An error was found in the Interview MTBI files which consequently affected the FMLI files as well. The error occurred in 2005Q3.

No additional addenda are necessary, as the files you've downloaded already have the appropriate addenda applied.

MTBI file:

The following Interview Files were affected:

SAS (*.sas7bdat), SPSS (*.sav), STATA (*.dta), ASCII-comma-delimited (*.csv):  MTBI053.*

Variables affected:  QREC3MX, UCC 310340

FMLI file:

The following Interview Files were affected:

SAS (*.sas7bdat), SPSS (*.sav), STATA (*.dta), ASCII-comma-delimited (*.csv):  FMLI053.*

Variables affected:  TVRDIOPQ, TVRDIOCQ, ENTERTPQ, ENTERTCQ, TOTEXPPQ, TOTEXPCQ,
TOTEX4PQ, TOTEX4CQ, EENTRMTP, EENTRMTC, ETOTALP, ETOTALC, ETOTAPX4, ETOTACX4

QREC3MX refers to the consumer unit’s expenditures on records, CDs, and audio tapes, and it had been incorrectly mapped to UCC 310342 (which was discontinued in 2005Q2) instead of the replacement UCC 310340. The correct sum of expenditures for UCC 310340 is $66,223.

Adding the correct values for UCC 310340 will result in the means of the summary variables increasing by $8.88, when all observations for the quarter are used in the mean calculation.
